The Program of Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Puerto Rico received a federal grant under the Department of Agriculture to make six courses in our curriculum in a distance education format. The donation was presented in part to develop innovative teaching strategies through distance education courses and build a virtual library of Nutrition. The project is expected to be completed in three years and achieve the following objectives:
a) The conversion of six courses in a distance learning format to enhance teaching and learning strategies, expand the student experience and reduce time and costs for students enrolled and potential.
b) The development of the evaluation of the modules to accompany the learning activities.
c) Learning activities that benefit other programs or institutions available through a virtual library is accessed through the project website.
d) Infrastructure to provide seminars and other distance learning activities beyond those included in the course outline for the benefit of the entire campus.
The Program of Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Puerto Rico is offered in the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Río Piedras. This program is only offered at the University of Puerto Rico. It was created in 1930. It consists of approximately four years of study to receive a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics.
The program aims to provide the academic preparation needed to prepare qualified nutrition professional to provide quality services to a diverse clientele. We focus on the development of professionals prepared to work in various areas of specialty within the field of nutrition. Integration of knowledge, skills and practices supervised experiences that enable graduates to promote proper nutrition and health and welfare of individuals through life in a diverse society.
